Maxwell Holyoke-Hirsch

Very nice illustrative visual style from Maxwell Holyoke-Hirsch. Currently living and working in San Francisco, he has a "strong love for creating thought-provoking images", with some very impressive client work on his website including Virgin Records, The New York Times and GQ.

London Design Festival

Just found out that an installation titled 'Outrace' shaped like a giant mechanical octopus will be taking over Trafalgar Square for this years London Design Festival in September. German designers, Clemens Welsshaar and Reed Kram, have created 6 robotic arms that will project lights into the air as they move. According to their website:

"Custom software developed by the designers will allow members of the public to temporarily take over the installation and render text input as light traces drawn by the synchronized mechanical tentacles."

Raf Vancampenhoudt

Featured designer on the Designer-Daily blog, Raf Vancampenhoudt, has a great use of typography displayed throughout his work with some very nice layouts and attention to detail.

Aimee Wilder

These clean, simple and effective prints were produced by American designer Aimee Wilder whose work is also available to purchase from her website as wallpaper and posters. She draws her inspiration from contemporary graphic art and the design world including typography, logo design, illustration, textiles, urban toy design and rock poster art.

Amy Ruppel

Some very impressive artwork by Amy Ruppel, the above images are from her 'State Animals Series' where she has created an individual design for each American state. She has used wax, paper and oils on wood for these pieces giving them a fine handmade quality, some of which are still available to purchase from her website.

Pascal Blanchet

Despite being a young designer this guy has got a great retro style to his work that I'm really envious of, reminds me of vintage french poster art. Have a look at his website here, full of illustrations, posters, packaging and book designs.

Johan Rostwall

Naz Hamid

Some striking photography of stormy skies by Naz Hamid here. He is also the founder of 'Weightshift' design company based in San Fransisco and Chicago, whose stuff is well worth a look at.

Camilla d'Errico

I'm loving the work of Camilla d'Errico who appears to have quite a strong anime style to her work, and seems to be doing very well in the comic book world as a result. Her pieces have also been creatively developed into plush toys and even clothing. This is what her website bio had to say:

"Camilla d'Errico is a product of her split heritage, Italian and Canadian rolled into one: Italian fiestiness, Canadian politeness, and an early addiction to Saturday morning cartoons and comics. Her first love was and still is comics. Growing up she was more often doodling sexy damsels and dragons on her textbooks than reading them. In 1998, Camilla first attended her first San Diego Comic Con where upon the moment she walked through the doors she realised that a 9–5 day job would kill her and this was what she wanted to do. After a few years in the comic industry Camilla expanded her style into a variety of other ventures: snowboard decals, magazine covers, toys, clothes and the pop art gallery scene. Thanks to her relentless energy, dedication, and sleep deprivation, she has followed her dream of working creatively for a living. She is part of what may be the first art movement in Western History where women are not second-class citizens, but have an edge in the mind of the public, especially when it comes to capturing the essence of the modern woman."

Roman da Costa

Looking at some research for YCN's 'Monster Munch' brief, I came across the work of Roman da Costa. Amongst an impressive portfolio he's got a really nice signature illustration style, quite cartoony and cutsey. Check out his stuff here.

Manish Arora

When I saw an advert for the 2009 MTV EMAs today, I remembered this dress I saw at last year's awards by Indian fashion designer Manish Arora. It's a carousel dress! I love quirky fashion and his designs are always so flamboyant and colourful. His collections are shown at Paris Fashion Week every season with his latest Amazonian rain forest influenced clothing going down the catwalk for A/W 09.

Josef Müller-Brockmann

Whilst doing some typographic research for our new 'Creative Meaning' brief, I came back across the work of designer Josef Müller-Brockmann. I found these images whilst researching for a previous project at the beginning of the year and have found myself going back to them for inspiration.
He was a Swiss graphic designer who opened a studio in Zurich during the 1930s and produced some interesting publications, especially his work, 'Grid Systems in Graphic Design', which shows great examples of functional typography and organized visual communication. He was also one of the founders for a short-lived magazine titled 'New Graphic Design'. His clean use of design, typographic treatment and overall organized aesthetic has definitely inspired me for our new project!
