London Design Festival

Just found out that an installation titled 'Outrace' shaped like a giant mechanical octopus will be taking over Trafalgar Square for this years London Design Festival in September. German designers, Clemens Welsshaar and Reed Kram, have created 6 robotic arms that will project lights into the air as they move. According to their website:

"Custom software developed by the designers will allow members of the public to temporarily take over the installation and render text input as light traces drawn by the synchronized mechanical tentacles."

Should be interesting!

Straight Line Designs

Woodwork has never really excited me, but the people over at Straight Line Designs, a furniture company based in Vancouver, have produced some really quirky and unique pieces. They encourage their clients to be involved in the creativity process to make amazing personal custom-made items. Examples here include a naughty table, a tuna can bench, a nursery rhyme-style dresser and a train bed.

"Our designs almost always lean towards the whimsical and unusual... that has a reputation for both a signature style and quality work."
